What led you to your particular field?

Throughout my high school years I was very active, which led to some sports-related injuries along the way. It was a Physiotherapist who helped get me back to what I loved doing. After that I took a special interest in the job, I completed a project on Physiotherapy in high school, I spent time volunteering in clinics, and then working as a Physiotherapy Assistant. I pursued an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and loved my courses on the human body and learning how it worked and moved. By the time my degree was done I knew with 100% certainty that Physiotherapy was my career of choice.

What are you passionate about in your work?

I like the human connection – getting to spend my day working with others to help get them back to doing what they love. I like that there are endless opportunities to learn and grow as a clinician. I enjoy staying up-to-date on the best research and taking new courses to expand my knowledge and skills to help others in the best way possible. I like the individuality of the job – each client is their own person and I like that I can help each person find what will work best for them.

How does your practice relate to how you live personally?

I am an active person and have appreciated the benefits that exercise has had on my mind and body. In my practice, I promote activity with a focus on helping clients create an individualized exercise program to target their goals. I also teach them the importance of giving the body a break when it is needed; goals are not achieved in one day, with patience and hard work you can get to where you want to go.

Do you have anything exciting to share on the horizon (i.e. a project you are working on, a new treatment you are introducing, a workshop you would love to share)?

I have recently become Pain Truth Certified and I look forward to introducing this program into my practice. The Pain Truth Program was created to help those with chronic/persistent pain get back to doing what they love. This 6-week program helps you set goals, learn about your relationship with pain, and is tailored to best meet your needs with many different optional topics to be covered including physical activity, sleep, healthy diet, stress/anxiety, fear of not recovering, and many more. If this resonates with you, please go to https://www.thepaintruth.org/ and answer the 10 questions on the home screen. Afterwards follow the steps outlined on the page and if the program feels like a good fit for you please reach out to me and we can get started together!

When you are not at Body Co, you are most likely….?

Exploring the city by bike, car or foot, finding new ways to stay active, visiting family or relaxing with a good book (or Netflix!).

Please share 2-5 things about yourself that others might not know and find interesting.

  1. I grew up in Ottawa and just recently moved to Etobicoke. I have been spending time exploring the city and its amazing waterfront parks! If you have any tips on where I should explore next, let me know!
  2. I am a Highland Dancer, I started dancing when I was 10 years old and have found ways to continue to enjoy the sport ever since, including starting a Highland Dance Club during my time at Queen’s University. If you know a good studio in the city I could join, I’d love to hear about it!
  3. I was lifeguard and swim instructor for six years, including working at a summer camp and at an outdoor pool! The quiet mornings watching the sun rise and the early bird swimmers were so peaceful.
  4. I have tried many different sports in my life: Soccer, dance (highland, tap, jazz, modern), track and field (200m & 400m), field hockey, softball, volleyball, dodgeball, swimming! If you know a great recreational sports league or a new sport I should try out, come in and tell me about it!
