# Birth Education

## Entry: Birth Education

Birth Education at Body Co

# The bag is packed. You still don't know what your body is about to do.

Ten hours of in-person childbirth education in the Junction, taught by Julie Bays, in a room with five other families.

You have read the books, downloaded the app, and asked every friend who has done this what it was like. What you have collected is a hundred pieces of advice that contradict each other. What you still do not have is a clear picture of what happens in that room, what your options are when the plan changes, and what to say when someone in scrubs starts explaining a procedure to you mid-contraction.

That is what these ten hours are for.

$349 for you and your support person

Three dates, starting October 14, 2026

6 spots per session

## Good childbirth education got harder to find.

Hospital programs come and go. Families who were counting on one are now piecing it together from YouTube, a group chat, and whatever their pregnancy app decides to push that week.

Julie Bays has spent years teaching childbirth education in Toronto hospital programs. She is teaching here now, in the Junction, six families at a time.

## Third trimester, and ideally 32 weeks and up.

Thirty-two weeks is the sweet spot. Far enough along that the information stays fresh through delivery. Early enough that you are not learning about coping positions while you are already using them.

### First-time parents.

You want to understand what is coming before you are in it, and you want to ask the questions you are slightly embarrassed to ask.

### Second-time parents who want a refresher.

Your first birth went the way it went. This time you want more say in it, or you want the parts you missed.

### You and whoever is going to be in the room with you.

Partner, mother, sister, best friend, doula. Both seats are yours to fill.

## Ten hours. Here is where they go.

01

### A working understanding of what your body is doing

Birth stops feeling like something happening to you once you understand the mechanics. You will learn what each stage of labour is doing, why it feels the way it does, and what helps at each point.

02

### A support person who knows what to do with their hands

Childbirth education is not only for the person giving birth. The person beside you leaves with counter-pressure techniques, position changes, and a clear sense of their role, which is most of what stands between them and standing uselessly in the corner.

03

### Language for the conversations you did not plan for

We cover interventions in detail, why they get offered, and what they involve. You leave with a set of informed consent questions for your care team, so when a decision arrives quickly, you already have the words.

04

### Every pain relief option, laid out side by side

Medicinal and non-medicinal, with the trade-offs named plainly. No agenda about which one you should pick.

05

### A map of the early postpartum weeks

What is common and fixable, what warrants a call to your doctor or midwife, how to plan ahead, and what the person supporting you can take off your plate before you have to ask.

06

### A feeding start that doesn't begin at 3am

For those planning to breastfeed, you get the mechanics of the first latch and a list of local support people, in your hands before you need them.

And with six spots, you get to ask the question you would never raise your hand for in a room of forty.

PLACEHOLDER: Julie's credential line goes here

## Meet Julie Bays

Julie is a certified childbirth educator with a long tenure teaching in major Toronto hospital programs. She has taught hundreds of families through their first birth and their second, and she brings her own experience as a parent into every room she teaches in.

Her style is direct and unhurried. She explains things plainly, adapts to how each person in the room learns, and she does not judge a single question. She also does something most educators skip. She gets the group talking to each other, so the people sitting beside you in week one are people you are still texting at 2am in week six.

PLACEHOLDER BIO. Replace before launch. Still needed from Julie: years teaching, approximate number of families taught, credential letters and certifying body, whether her hospital program can be named here, one line in her own words about why she teaches, and a warm landscape or square photo taken in a real room.

## From families Julie has taught

"My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the prenatal course we did with Julie. As first-time parents, she took what can be a daunting topic and made it feel approachable, understandable, and digestible. Her years of experience, both as a parent herself and as an educator, were evident and very much appreciated. Doing the course in person also allowed us to connect with other couples in similar stages of pregnancy and get hands-on practice with everything from labour positions to putting on a diaper. We learned so much, and the course helped us feel prepared not only for labour but also for those early stages of parenthood."

O AND J

"Julie has a wealth of knowledge and information to share about having, and taking care of, babies. Her teaching style is informative and supportive, not judgmental. She recognizes that diverse backgrounds and experience require different styles for effective learning and she adapts accordingly. She is patient and explains everything thoroughly and plainly. She also encourages the members of the group to share their experiences, questions and fears and to learn from and develop relationships with each other. This lays the foundation for a supportive community that lasts beyond her courses. For first time parents or those looking for a refresher, Julie's classes are first rate."

J AND B

"My husband and I were very happy to have participated in the Childbirth Education program at Sunnybrook, now sadly discontinued. The group class was engaging and very educational. I felt empowered knowing what I could expect, knowing possible coping positions and movements for labor, and equipment I could request to help during labor that was available at the hospital, like the peanut ball. I requested that one, and it was great. This class gave me the confidence to labor and give birth on my terms and to follow my birth plan as much as possible, making my birthing experience a very positive one. Julie, our instructor, was fantastic. She not only delivered the information in a format that was easy to understand and was very knowledgeable in providing answers to our questions, but she also made the class fun."

Sessions run at Body Co, 3093 Dundas Street West. Choose the session where you will be at least 32 weeks on the first day.

If a session is full, or none of these dates work for you, [add your name to the waitlist](#) and you will hear about the next release before it goes public.

## The questions people ask before they book

Who counts as my support person?

Whoever is going to be with you. Partner, mother, sister, friend, or your doula. One registration covers two people and we do not ask about the relationship. If you are coming solo, that is fine too, and you are welcome to fill your second seat later.

What if my plans change, or the baby comes early?

Plans change at this stage of pregnancy. Cancel up to two weeks before your first class and you get a full refund, no questions asked. After that we cannot refund it, but you do not lose it. The full $349 moves to anything else we do here, whether that is physiotherapy, osteopathy, massage, naturopathic care, or another class, and it is yours to use whenever you are ready.

How far along should I be?

Aim to be at least 32 weeks on the first day of your session. Earlier than that and the information has a long time to sit before you use it. Much later and you may be cutting it close, particularly for the four-week series.

What if I go into labour partway through the series?

It happens. Let us know and we will hold your spot in the next session so your support person can finish, or you can pick up the postpartum and feeding content with us separately. If neither of those works for you, the full value moves to any other service at Body Co.

Do I need to be a Body Co client?

No. This is open to anyone in Toronto, and plenty of people who take it have never been through our doors.

What is included in the $349?

All ten hours of instruction, all materials, and both seats. There are no add-ons and nothing gets sold to you in the room.

Is this only for first-time parents?

Most of the room will be first-timers, and Julie teaches a lot of second and third-time parents who want a refresher or who want a different experience than the one they had.

What if none of these dates work?

Add your name to the waitlist. You will hear about the next release before it goes public, and the sessions are small enough that they do sell out.

Where do I park?

PLACEHOLDER. Needed before launch: parking options near 3093 Dundas Street West, the nearest TTC route and stop, and arrival instructions for the 6:30pm evening sessions, including whether the front door is locked after hours and who lets people in.

## Six spots. Three dates. One educator who has done this for years.

If the birth part has been on your list since your twenty-week scan and you keep pushing it to next week, this is the one to book. And if the timing is wrong for you, get on the waitlist so you are not trying to sort this out at 36 weeks with nothing available.

## Step: Thank You

Birth Education at Body Co

# That is one thing off the list.

Your spot is held. Your confirmation email is on its way with your dates, the address, and everything you need for the first night. If it has not landed in ten minutes, check your promotions folder before you email us.

## What happens between now and your first class

01

### Put the dates in your calendar

All of them, and your support person's calendar too. The series is built so each class carries into the next, and the person coming with you gets the most out of being there every time.

02

### Bring almost nothing

Comfortable clothes you can move and kneel in, a water bottle, and a pillow if you have a favourite one. Materials are provided. There is floor work, so socks or bare feet are easier than shoes.

03

### Come with your questions

The ones you have been typing into a search bar at midnight. Six families in the room means there is time for them, and Julie would rather you ask than leave wondering.

## Finding us

Body Co Health and Wellness, 3093 Dundas Street West, Toronto. We are in the Junction.

PLACEHOLDER. Needed before launch: parking options near the clinic, the nearest TTC route and stop, and arrival instructions for the 6:30pm evening sessions, including whether the front door is locked after hours and who lets people in.

Something come up, or a question you would rather ask now? Email [melanie@bodycotoronto.com](mailto:melanie@bodycotoronto.com) and we will sort it out.

## One more thing, and then we will leave you alone.

Most of what you learn in this class is about the hours of labour. What tends to get skipped is the body doing the work, before and after. If you want someone to look at your pelvic floor while there is still time to change how delivery and recovery go, that is what we do here every day.

No rush. It will keep until after your first class.
